Occupational Therapy is a health area dedicated to preventing, treating and rehabilitating children who have difficulty carrying out daily activities due to physical, psychological, social or developmental disorders.
During an Occupational Therapy appointment, the occupational therapist will conduct a comprehensive assessment of the patient's abilities and difficulties. This assessment may involve examining motor coordination, strength, flexibility, balance, cognitive skills, communication skills, and the environment in which the patient performs his or her daily activities.
Based on this assessment, the occupational therapist will develop a personalized intervention plan to help the patient acquire, recover or maintain the skills necessary to perform daily activities with autonomy and independence. This plan may include specific therapies and exercises, adaptation of the home or work environment, use of technologies to help with assistance, time and stress management strategies, among others.
The main goal of Occupational Therapy is to enable children of all ages to participate in everyday activities that are meaningful and important to them. This can cover a variety of functions, from personal care (such as dressing, eating and bathing) to more complex activities such as studying, socializing, playing sports, pursuing hobbies, and more.
Therefore, Occupational Therapy consultation is essential to promote children's well-being and quality of life, allowing them to live more independently, productively and satisfactorily.
