Occupational Therapy is a healthcare field dedicated to preventing, treating, and rehabilitating children who face difficulties performing daily activities due to physical, psychological, social, or developmental disorders.
During the Occupational Therapy consultation, the occupational therapist will conduct a comprehensive assessment of the patient's abilities and challenges. This assessment may involve examining motor coordination, strength, flexibility, balance, cognitive skills, communication ability, and also the environment in which the patient carries out their daily activities.
Based on this assessment, the occupational therapist will develop a personalized intervention plan to help the patient acquire, regain, or maintain the necessary skills to perform everyday activities with autonomy and independence. This plan may include specific therapies and exercises, adaptation of the home or work environment, the use of assistive technologies, time and stress management strategies, among others.
The main goal of Occupational Therapy is to empower children of all ages to participate in the daily activities that are meaningful and important to them. This can cover a variety of functions, from personal care (such as dressing, eating, and bathing) to more complex activities like studying, socializing, playing sports, pursuing hobbies, among others.
Thus, the Occupational Therapy consultation is essential for promoting the well-being and quality of life of children, allowing them to live more independently, productively, and satisfactorily.
