The recommendation that all newborns should see an osteopath may come as a surprise to some. However, there are good reasons for this.
Intrauterine life and the birth process are crucial moments in the baby's development, with the potential to induce tensions or changes in the body's structure. These changes can occur due to different positions of the baby in the uterus or movements made during birth.
So why is it important to take my baby to an osteopath?
Early osteopathic treatment can help prevent future complications. Many conditions, such as scoliosis, torticollis, plagiocephaly (change in the position of the bones of the skull), strabismus, among others, can be treated more effectively at this early stage.
Ideally, the first pediatric osteopathy consultation should take place by the end of the first month of life. The earlier treatment begins, the better the results will be. This is a global process that seeks the cause of the change. The treatment causes a resonance effect, since, after removing the cause of the problem, the baby begins an internal process of searching for a new, healthier balance.
Pediatric Osteopathy brings a series of benefits, including:
- Eliminates discomfort and pain in chronic and acute conditions;
- Prevents potential future problems;
- Balances tensions in different tissues, such as bones, tendons, muscles and fascia;
- Assesses and treats mobility restrictions in the baby or child's body;
- Stimulates and improves sensorimotor development;
- Facilitates the transition from intrauterine life to the outside world;
- Promotes a feeling of well-being;
- Improves quality of life and health.
This approach can help resolve problems such as excessive crying, frequent regurgitation, colic, digestive problems and reflux, breastfeeding difficulties, sleep problems, signs of anxiety, recurrent bronchitis, among others.
Osteopathy vs. Physiotherapy: What's the Difference?
While physiotherapy is a more symptom-specific approach, osteopathy views the body as an interconnected system, focusing more on the system as a whole rather than just the symptoms. The idea is to find the cause of the problem and address it, rather than just treating the symptoms.
Studies conducted in neonatal units provide evidence that osteopathic manipulative treatment is effective in reducing the length of hospital stay for treated newborns. Therefore, considering an osteopathic consultation for your baby can be a very beneficial decision for his or her health.

Frequently Asked Questions

It depends. Normally you will receive it within 24/48 hours. If the product has the title "By Order" or "Pre-sale", we will contact you to let you know the delivery time (but it usually takes no more than two weeks). Any car seat takes between 2 and 5 days. If you have any questions, please ask us 😊
Do you ship internationally?
Yes, we ship worldwide! However, if for some reason the checkout does not allow shipping, please contact us so we can tell you the shipping cost!
What is the Exchange and Returns policy?
What can I return?
Any item can be returned, with the exception of babywearing, car seats or hygiene or intimate items. These exceptions will be analyzed on a case-by-case basis only if they have never been used.
What should I pay attention to?
Returned products must be in a saleable condition, i.e. in the same condition in which they arrived in the User's hands, without any anomaly or damage (including any packaging, box or padding or wrapping material). This is a mandatory factor.
How to proceed?
You must request a return by email (ola@gotu.pt) or WhatsApp (910 678 811). When an item is eligible for return, there are two ways to do so:
-The customer packs and sends the item well-packaged to Gotu, after approval of the return.
-For greater convenience, Gotu collects the item from the customer's address, at a cost of €4.50 (for mainland Portugal)
Are there any costs?
What will be described here is effective when the return is not based on manufacturing defects or errors attributable to Gotu. In these cases, the return is free of charge.
We must bear in mind that sending an item to the customer's address implies contracting a transport service external to Gotu. This service has a cost, which in most cases is €4.50. From the moment the customer receives the item, we consider the transport service to have been successfully completed.
In case of returning the item, we have to assume:
1-Shipping has already been paid for and completed
2-The cost of this shipment will not be refunded.
3-When shipping is carried out under a promotional campaign, its cost (€1 or even Free Shipping) is paid by Gotu to the transport company. This amount, regardless of the amount paid by the customer, will not be refunded.
In practice, returns will be made as follows (taking as an example an item valued at €50):
1-In case of full payment of postage (€4.50 for example) this amount will not be refunded, only the value of the item (€50 in the example)
2-In case of shipping under a Free Shipping or €1 Shipping campaign, the refund of the item's value will be debited from the actual shipping cost (€4.50 or €3.50 respectively, making a total refund of €45.50 or €46.50 respectively)
3- Points 1 and 2 assume that the customer will be responsible for sending the item. For greater convenience, Gotu can request home collection, increasing the discounted price of the item by €4.50.
Why do I see different shoe sizes than other stores?
Because we measure EVERY shoe we have, and use those measurements in our Gotu Calculator . This way, we can ensure that if your foot measurement is correct, then the shoe size shown is the best fit.
