This two-part leaflet from the PSP emphasises the importance of wearing seatbelts, especially for children, who are the most vulnerable road users. It highlights that road accidents are the main cause of death in children under 10 years old, and that a collision at 50 km/h can be fatal without adequate protection. It emphasises the need to use mandatory safety accessories, such as child seats and booster seats, adjusted to the height of the child/young person, for adequate protection.
Explains Law 13/2006, which defines the rules for the collective transport of children and young people up to the age of 16. The law applies to all cases of collective transport of children and young people for educational activities, study visits and other similar activities. The use of seat belts, fire extinguishers and first aid kits are mandatory on buses. The pamphlet also addresses the mandatory presence of security guards on public transport, especially in heavy vehicles.
The leaflet provides advice on what should be required in terms of safety in the public transport of children, including checking the identity of guards and compliance with legal safety requirements.
