There is a question that every parent asks sooner or later: will I have to buy three different car seats by the time my child grows up? The Axkid One 4 was designed, in part, to address this very concern. It is a car seat built to accompany your child from 60 cm up to 1.50 m, which, in practice, can mean up to around 12 years of use on the exact same frame (backed by a total service life of 15 years guaranteed by the manufacturer).

But the real story of this seat isn't just its longevity. It lies in successfully combining two things that, for a long time, seemed to exist in completely separate worlds: the maximum safety of rear-facing travel and the convenience of rotation. In this article, we explain what's new, why rear-facing remains the safest position, and how the Axkid One 4 translates the science of car safety into something practical for everyday life.

What is the Axkid One 4

The Axkid One 4 is an extended rear-facing car seat from the Swedish brand Axkid, renowned for taking child safety seriously. The core idea is simple: to offer a single car seat that covers a huge portion of childhood without compromising on what matters most—protecting the head, neck, and spine.

Why Rear-Facing Remains the Safest Position

This is the part that deserves close attention, because child anatomy is where the real difference lies—and it's not a matter of opinion.

In a baby or young child, the head represents a massive proportion of their total body weight—close to 25%, compared to only around 6% in an adult. At the same time, their neck bones are still developing, being closer to cartilage than solid bone. Put these two factors together and the danger becomes clear: during a sudden stop or a head-on collision, if the child is forward-facing, their body is held back by the harness, but their head is thrown forward with a force that their fragile neck simply cannot support.

When rear-facing, physics works in your favor. The force of the impact is distributed across the entire shell of the car seat and the child's whole back, instead of concentrating on their most vulnerable point. The head, neck, and spine remain fully supported, exactly as they should be.

What about their legs? This is a question that always comes up. Children are incredibly flexible, and bending or crossing their legs is perfectly comfortable for them. Real-world accident data shows that the risk of leg injuries in rear-facing seats is extremely low, whereas the risk of neck and spine injuries spikes dramatically when a child is turned forward-facing too early. This is why the standard safety recommendation is to keep children rear-facing for as long as possible, ideally until at least 4 years old, or as long as the seat allows.

Rotation: Convenience Without Compromising on Safety

For years, choosing a rear-facing car seat meant accepting some daily gymnastics. Parents' lower backs know this pain all too well. The rotation feature of the Axkid One 4 changes this daily grind completely: instead of twisting yourself into awkward positions to buckle your child in, the seat rotates directly toward you, bringing the child right to your hands.

The key point here is that rotation is meant to assist with loading and unloading, not for actual travel. During the journey, the child remains rear-facing, which is where the real protection happens. Convenience for parents, safety for the child. You no longer have to choose between the two.

From Newborn to Pre-Teen: How the Car Seat Evolves

The greatest benefit of the Axkid One 4 is how it adapts to different growth stages, adjusting seamlessly as your child grows:

Rear-Facing (from 60 cm up to 125 cm): The most critical stage—where the cervical spine is still developing—is also when the seat offers the premium protection of the rear-facing position, now enhanced with the convenience of rotation.

Forward-Facing (from 105 cm up to 1.50 m): Once your child is older, the seat converts to forward-facing mode. In this stage, the internal harness is tucked away, and the car's seat belt is used to secure the child's more robust body.

This transition happens within the very same structure, saving you from having to buy new car seats every few years (an incredible advantage further backed by its 15-year service life).

Smart Details That Simplify Everyday Life

Beyond safety and durability, there are thoughtful details designed for real-world parenting—the kind that happens when you're in a hurry, sleep-deprived, and often dealing with a protesting toddler:

Highly adjustable headrest: Grows alongside your child and keeps their head safely positioned.

Who is the Axkid One 4 Best Suited For?

The Axkid One 4 is an excellent choice for families looking to minimize the number of car seats they buy throughout childhood without compromising on extended rear-facing safety, and who highly value the daily convenience of a rotating seat. It is a car seat designed for the long run: a rock-solid structure that accompanies your child from their very first months up until they are practically pre-teens.

If you still have doubts about which Axkid model is the perfect fit for your car and routine, it is worth taking a moment to look at height ranges, the legroom/space available on your vehicle's backseat, and how the seat will fit into your everyday life.
