Coconut oil is widely used in soap making because it provides abundant foam even with seawater. It contains vitamins B and E, providing protection and hydration to the skin, in addition to having antimicrobial properties (prevents the proliferation of microorganisms) due to the acids that compose it.

When making handmade soaps, coconut oil should be used as 20 to 25% of the total base oils. If used in greater proportions, it can dry out the skin.

By its nature, coconut oil is solid at low temperatures, so it is difficult to remove it from the bottle it comes in. This can be easily solved by placing it in a bain-marie for a few minutes, until it becomes liquid. This oil is not heat-sensitive, that is, its properties do not reduce when heated to a temperature of up to 70ºC.
