Coconut oil is widely used in soap making because it provides abundant lather even with seawater. It contains vitamins B and E, providing protection and hydration to the skin, in addition to having antimicrobial properties (prevents the proliferation of microorganisms) due to the acids that compose it.
In the manufacture of handmade soaps, coconut oil should be used between 20 and 25% of the total basic oils. If used in a higher proportion, it can dry out the skin.
Due to its nature, coconut oil is solid at low temperatures, which is why it is difficult to remove it from the bottle it is supplied in. This is easily solved by placing it in a double boiler for a few minutes, until it becomes liquid. This oil is not thermosensitive, meaning its properties are not reduced when heated to a temperature up to 70ºC..
